RWE Renewables Australia is proposing to construct a standalone, lithium-ion Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at South Hummocks in South Australia, about 125 kilometres north-west of Adelaide in the Barunga West Council.
The proposed project site consists of 56 hectares of private land zoned rural under the South Australian Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016. It is currently used for cereal cropping and is situated close to existing grid infrastructure. The proposed BESS would have a maximum capacity of 80 megawatts (MW) and 320 megawatt hours (MWh).
The BESS would connect to the Kadina East 132kV line, via the Hummocks substation.
As part of this project, RWE will be engaging with the local community to develop lasting partnerships.
We look forward to engaging with the community and fostering opportunities in the area, as well utilising local providers where possible to help enhance the economic and social outcomes of the region.
